SOMEWHERE BETWEEN ELSEWHERE

EMERGENCE: GRADUATION SENIORS EXHIBITION

Somewhere Between Elsewhere explores identity through feelings of diaspora, forgotten spaces, and memories from my time in Vietnam that have faded with time. Working across painting, sculpture, and print, I reconstruct environments and experiences shaped by memory rather than documentation—places that now feel both familiar and distant as they have changed or no longer exist.

These works reflect my position as someone who is not entirely an outsider to Vietnamese culture, yet never fully immersed within it. I exist more as an admirer than a direct inheritor. Fragmented forms, layered surfaces, and partial architectural structures mirror the instability of memory and belonging. Here, “elsewhere” exists not only as a physical place, but also within recollection, nostalgia, and inherited experience.

By revisiting what has been overlooked, altered, or lost, I explore how absence shapes diasporic identity, and how these in-between, liminal spaces can become sites for constructing a sense of self.
